Orefield resident

cast in play

DeSales University Theatre major and Orefield resident Carter Sachse will play Doctor Joseph Cardin in the university’s Act 1 production of Lillian Hellman’s searing drama “The Children’s Hour.”

The show opens on Feb. 20, and runs until March 2, on the Main Stage of the Labuda Center for the Performing Arts.

Act 1 is the highly acclaimed producing arm of the DeSales University School of Performing Arts that encourages students to bring truth and beauty to the world through their art forms in plays, musicals, children’s theatre, dance concerts, and film festivals.

Based on an 1810 Scottish court case, Hellman’s first play is set at the struggling Wright-Dobie School for Girls.

When the two administrators of the school, Karen Wright and Martha Dobie, finally begin to see financial stability from cautious success, a rumor based in spite threatens to destroy everything they have worked for as well as their future happiness.

“I am excited to share this play with the Act 1 audiences,” said Jessica Bedford, artistic director, assistant professor of theatre, and director of the production. “It’s a fantastic story with a masterful plot and riveting characters. The powerful message of this play will stay with you long after you leave our theatre.”
