Anniversary committee plans engraved brick fundraiser

At the Feb. 10 Bath Borough Council meeting, it was announced the borough’s 250th celebration committee is planning a fundraising event by selling bricks for engraving and placement at the trailhead near Ciff Cowling Park, 301 Allen St.

Council developed the committee last year to coordinate the Bath celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. The nation will celebrate its 250th anniversary July 4, 2026. It is the semiquincentennial celebration.

The cost per brick is $40, with two bricks for $75. Anyone can purchase a brick, as it is not limited to Bath residents. Visit bathborough.org for details and how to order.

In other news, Mayor Fiorella Reginelli Mirabito asked what can be done about the costs of the damage from tractor-trailers allegedly hitting the signal lights in Bath. The cost is more than $50,000 and is not covered by insurance because the recent accident was described as a hit and run.

The borough engineer reminded council the borough zoning map needs completion. After the map is done, an ordinance needs to be passed to make the map legal.

Reginelli Mirabito said the Pennsylvania State Police are patrolling in town. She added the new commander of Troop M is Lt. Seth Kelly. Kelly previously served as commander.

Reginelli Mirabito added she is arranging a Coffee with the Cops event.

Borough President Frank Hesch said there are several positions open for elected officials in the May election, including mayor, tax collector and three council seats.

Council approved the borough Stormwater Authority Lease Agreement, adopted Bath Borough Stormwater Authority’s management agreement, authorized the borough manager to execute an agreement with First Regional Compost Authority and authorized the borough manager to bid $1,000 on a property belonging to Joseph Momey.

Council approved the payment to Telco Inc. in the amount of $51,257 for the damage done by a motor vehicle hit-and-run accident at Barrall Avenue and Walnut Street, Bath.

The parks and recreation committee report said the band shell project is moving forward, with the proposed layout nearly completed. The planning is on schedule, with construction of the band shell expected in spring.

The Spuds and Spurs event is set for 1-6 p.m. June 21. The summer festival will be on Chestnut and Northampton streets.

The personnel, finance and administration committee is working on developing a borough council handbook.

The environmental advisory committee is planning a possible Earth Day celebration, with details to come, and an electronics recycling center event.

Bath Borough Fire Department reported there were 43 fire calls during January.

The borough’s public safety committee discussed a safety issue with fire truck emergency access from the fire station to Walnut Street. More discussions are planned about the issue.

Nazareth Area Council of Governments is planning on a $250 annual fee to belong to the group. It is also seeking solutions for a verified animal control program.

The next Bath Borough Council meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. March 10 at borough hall, 121 Walnut St. It is a hybrid meeting, with both in-person and virtual options. Search Bath Borough Council on YouTube to view.
