NORTHWESTERN LEHIGH: “Pippin”

Northwestern Lehigh High School brings back the Middle Ages with performances of “Pippin,” 7 p.m. Feb. 27, 28, March 1; 2 p.m. March 2, auditorium, Northwestern Lehigh High School, 6493 Route 309, New Tripoli, Lynn Township.

Director Zane Bachert is aided by Assistant Director Sarah Danner, Choreographer Adam Newborn and Music Director Michelle Woodland.

In the tale told by the Leading Player, head of a mysterious performance troupe, Pippin is a prince searching for meaning and significance. The young prince and his father Charlemagne are loosely based on real-life characters from medieval history.

With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, the libretto was written by Roger O. Hirson.

The 1972 Broadway premiere, directed by Bob Fosse, was nominated for 11 Tony Awards, receiving five Tonys. The 2013 Broadway revival was nominated for 10 Tony Awards, receiving four Tonys.

Signature songs include “Magic to Do,” “Corner of the Sky,” “War is a Science,” “Spread a Little Sunshine” and “On the Right Track.”
