BC falls to Emmaus in final
Bethlehem Catholic’s girls basketball team were Eastern Pennsylvania Conference silver medalists after competing in the EPC final won by Emmaus, 59-37, on Feb. 13 at PPL Center, Allentown.
During the regular season, Becahi lost to the Hornets by three points, but last week, the Golden Hawks’ game plan was interrupted by foul trouble.
Becahi center Mikaila Brooks picked up from where she left off in the EPC semifinal against Nazareth when the Beca sophomore scored 18 points.
Brooks put up six straight points in the first quarter but ran into foul trouble early.
“Foul trouble tied us up, and she tried her best,” said Bethlehem Catholic coach Arnold Alleyne. “She came in, scored a bunch of points in a row, but that foul trouble changed the game.”
Beca freshman forward Palin Coleman was tough on the defensive boards and gave the Hawks an early second quarter lead.
Becahi junior Aliyah Brame came up with a steal in her first appearance in several weeks after recuperating from an injury.
“She’s been out for awhile, but she wanted to play, and she was cleared, so I wanted to give her the opportunity, and I was proud of her for wanting to help our team,” Coach Alleyne said.
Emmaus had a 29-20 lead at halftime from which the Hawks were unable to recover. The Hornets extended the lead with three triples in the third quarter despite Beca’s efforts to keep the game close.
“They’re a good defensive team,” said Alleyne. “We had to manage it better, but we’ll get better. We have to get back to practice, get our feet back under us, and get back to work. This is a good lesson for us.”
Bethlehem Catholic will compete in the District XI girls basketball tournament scheduled to begin this week.
