Three from EHS win at tourney
Fresh off a sixth-place finish at the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Championships the weekend before, the Emmaus High School girls wrestling team had a midweek conference dual at home and then competed in the Panther Brawl at Strath Haven High School this past Saturday.
Last Wednesday night, the Hornets were taken down 47-24 against Pocono Mountain East. They then placed second overall out of 13 teams at the Panther Brawl with 163.5 team points.
Against the Cardinals, PM East won eight of the 12 bouts. Emmaus finished with two pins and two forfeits, compared to six pins, one forfeit and one technical fall for PME.
Peyton Schneck opened the match with a pin in 0:43 at 100 pounds to stake her team to an early 6-0 lead.
The Cardinals won the next six bouts to go on top 35-6. Ariana Koberlein stopped the PM East run with a pin in 3:02 at 142 pounds. Olivya Kroope and Katherine Soto- Acuna rounded out the scoring for the Green Hornets with two forfeit victories at 170 and 235 pounds, respectively.
At the Panther Brawl, Schneck (100), Kroope (155) and Soto-Acuna (235) all finished on top of their respective weight classes. Haily Laible and Jocelyn Vargas both placed third overall at 148 and 170 pounds, respectively, while Shadeilyz Castro-Ruiz, Kadence Yannotti and Ariana Koberlein all ended the day in fourth at 106, 136 and 142 pounds, respectively.
Flor Chouloupe tallied a fifth-place finish at 118 pounds and Brynn Koberlein was sixth overall at 130 pounds.
Emmaus has two dual matches this week to conclude the regular season, one at home against Northampton Monday and then another at Palisades on Thursday. The Hornets will then compete in the Lebanon Tournament at Lebanon High School on Saturday.
