Salisbury wins five of last six games

The Salisbury High School girls basketball team was 3-12 coming into its final six games of the season.

Some teams would have just played out the string without much regard for winning and losing. Instead, Salisbury won five of its last six games to finish 8-13 overall on the season and gain some confidence to take into the summer leagues and camps with an eye on a stronger season next winter.

After a 55-37 loss to Catasauqua, Salisbury won its final two games against Southern Lehigh and Palisades.

Junior Kendra Morgan was a key down the stretch for Salisbury as she averaged just under 21 points per game over the final four games of the season, including putting up 28 points in a win over Saucon Valley and 22 points in the finale against Palisades.

Roxana Cardenas also had a nice stretch as she came off the bench to score in double digits in each of the last three games.

Morgan had 21 points and Cardenas 10 in a 45-34 win over the Spartans and then combined for 22 and 11 points, respectively against the Lady Pirates to close out the season.

The Falcon’s 7-10 league record left them three games behind Bangor for the final spot in the Colonial League playoffs, a remarkable feat considering that the team appeared destined to be much further from qualifying for the postseason just a few weeks ago.

The season was the first for coach Jason Laky, who inherited a very young roster with just one senior. He helped the team to develop as the season progressed.
