Parkland beats ESS, falls in District 11 Duals

The Parkland High School boys wrestling team was victorious in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference dual match last week and then competed in District 11 3A team duals at Freedom High School over the weekend, falling in a quarterfinal round matchup.

The Trojans took down East Stroudsburg South on the road last Wednesday, 49-13. They fell to District 11 3A champion Bethlehem Catholic 44-28 last Saturday afternoon.

In the win over the Cavaliers, Parkland won 10 of the 13 bouts, including three pins, three technical falls, two decisions, one major decision and one forfeit win.

The Trojans opened the match with eight straight victories as Luis Moya got things going by taking a forfeit victory. Braden Todora won by an 18-2 technical fall at 114, followed by back-to-back pins by Matthew Velez and Eli Russ. Another technical fall by Jared Santilli was followed by a pin from Leo Kern. Donato Ciampittiello and Dallas Reyes continued the strong start to the match with a 13-9 decision at 145 pounds and a 19-4 technical fall at 152 pounds, respectively.

ES South got on the scoreboard with a pin at 160, but Jorge Moya tallied a 13-10 decision and Christopher Toth earned a 16-8 major decision to round out the scoring.

Against the Golden Hawks, the Trojans won five of the 13 bouts. Max Pugach gave his team some positive momentum to begin the match as he recorded a pin in 1:29 at 285 pounds to lead 6-0. Following a Becahi technical fall victory, Todora picked up a technical fall of his own in the next bout to push his team’s advantage to 11-5.

But the Hawks won the next three bouts to take a 21-11 lead. Kern won via forfeit at 139 pounds and then Ciampittiello won via an 18-0 technical fall to give his team the lead again at 22-21. But Bethlehem Catholic won the next two bouts and four of the final five to finish on top. Isaac Evans earned a pin in the middle of the final five bouts.
