Hornets fall to Easton in D-11 Duals

The Emmaus High School boys wrestling team was victorious in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference dual match in the middle of the week and then competed in District 11 3A team duals at Freedom High School over the weekend, falling in a quarterfinal round matchup.

The Hornets took down Pocono Mountain East on the road last Wednesday night in the final regular season dual match, 53-12. They then met Easton High School in the quarterfinal round of team districts last Saturday, dropping the match 31-22.

Against the Cardinals, Emmaus won 10 of the 13 bouts, including four pins, two technical falls, two forfeits, one major decision and one decision.

The two teams split the first four bouts, as Jackson Max opened the match with a pin in 1:10 at 107 pounds. After a decision for PM East at 114, Emilio Albanese earned a 20-5 technical fall at 121 pounds. The Cardinals picked up another decision at 127 to cut their deficit to 11-6, but Emmaus won the next eight bouts, including pins by Xyler Sallit, Jesse Scott and Ashir Choudry, forfeit victories by Chancellor Henry and Massimo Tranguch, a technical fall by Xayden Sallit, a major decision by Tommy Fallstich and a decision from Logan Armstrong.

At districts, the Red Rovers, Bethlehem Catholic, Nazareth and Notre Dame Green Pond came out on top in the quarterfinal round. The Golden Hawks then beat the Crusaders in one semifinal with the Blue Eagles defeating Easton in the other. Becahi won the tournament in the end.

Against the Red Rovers, Emmaus fell just short as Easton won seven bouts compared to six from the Hornets. Emmaus held a 23-22 lead late after back-to-back decisions by Scott and Xayden Sallit at 160 and 172 pounds, respectively, but the Red Rovers took the last two bouts via a decision and pin to finish off the match.

After Easton earned a technical fall to start the match, Max added his own technical fall to tie the match at 107 pounds and then Camren Martinez recorded a pin in 0:59 at 114 pounds to go on top 11-5. The Red Rovers then won three straight bouts to take a 19-11 lead before Xyler Sallit and Henry tallied back-to-back decisions at 139 and 145 pounds, respectively.

Emmaus will next be in action in the District 11 3A individual tournament on Friday, Feb. 21 and Saturday, Feb. 22 at Liberty High School.
