Hornet ice hockey team searches for second win of 2024-25 season
After almost a month off from competition, the Emmaus High School ice hockey team was back on the ice playing in games in the Lehigh Valley Scholastic Ice Hockey League with two games within the last two weeks.
The Hornets fell to rival Parkland, 3-0, on Monday, Jan. 27, at the Bethlehem Municipal ice rink. It was the second defeat to the Trojans this season, falling 4-2 in the season opener on Oct. 28. The following week, Emmaus was downed 6-3 to the Saints on Feb. 3 at the Municipal rink.
Against Parkland, the Trojans got on the scoreboard with a goal in the first period 5:23 into the game by a power-play goal from Madison Morris. The teams remained in a 1-0 score up until the third period when Parkland netted two more goals to secure the victory.
Josh Pierce finished with 13 saves and had an .812 save percentage.
In the game with the Saints, Emmaus fell into a 4-0 hole as the Saints scored three goals in the first period and added another 5:08 into the second period. The Green Hornets finally got on the scoreboard 7:34 into the frame as Ben Nichols found the back of the net off an assist by Connor Treaster. Just a minute later, Aidan Nichols tallied the second goal on an assist by Noah Holschwander.
The Saints, however, answered with two more goals before the end of the second to take back a four-goal lead at 6-2. Aidan Nichols recorded his second goal of the game early on in the third period to round out the scoring.
Emmaus has a rematch with the Saints in the final game of the regular season on Friday night, Feb. 28, at the Steel Ice Center. It is the first game there for the Green Hornets this season. They will be looking to end a six-game losing streak and finish the season on a high note.
The Hornets are 1-8 this season with their lone victory coming on Nov. 25 against Southern Lehigh.
