Hornet girls swim team places fourth at Cedar Crest Classic

Emmaus wrapped up its dual meet season recently with a 134-52 win over Freedom and then swam against eight other schools in the Cedar Crest Classic at Parkland High School where the Hornets finished fourth.

Against Freedom, a number of young swimmers turned in strong performances as they started the countdown to the postseason.

Emmaus swept the top three spots in both the 200 and 500-yard freestyle events against the Patriots.

In the 200, freshman Ella Shucavage finished with a personal best time of 2:17.27 to edge classmate Maddy Roberts, who also turned in a personal best as she finished in 2:19.41. In third was sophomore Kendall Shriver at 2:20.27.

In the 500, Liz Mazzetti had a time of 5:51.32, a season best for the sophomore swimmer. Sriya Reddy had a personal best time when she finished in 6:02.84 to take second place and yet another sophomore took third with a time of 6:19.87.

In addition to finishing second in the 500, Reddy showed she can swim the sprints as well by taking the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle as she edged Freedom’s Alivia Deemer by 0.37 seconds.

The Hornets also swept in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard backstroke.

In the IM, youth was served again as freshman Keilani Silva finished in 2:24.58 to edge out senior teammate Natalie Cheplick by 0.04 seconds. Freshman Reagan Coffey swam a personal best time to finish third with a mark of 2:37.69 for Emmaus. The 100-yard backstroke belonged to junior Sophia Harmon with a time of 1:06.87. Bella Marsh took second and Druthi Reddy finished third.

Junior Gabby Antunes won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:18.60.

In relays, the Hornets took the top two spots in all three events. In the 200-yard medley, Mabry Krause, Harmon, and Babs Lyons took first in a time of 1:56.21 for Emmaus.

In the freestyle relays, the 200-yard freestyle was close with the team of Silva, Krause, Sriya Reddy, and Veronica Karbosky turned in a top time of 1:45.47 while the team of Lyons, Cheplick, Antunes, and Mazzetti had a time of 1:49.48. The 400-yard freestyle team of Krause, Cheplick, Silva, and Sriya Reddy finished in 3:56.98 with another Emmaus foursome taking second.

In diving, Elle Bagley took second place with a score of 204.1, finishing behind Freedom’s Hayden Taylor.

In the Cedar Crest Classic, Upper Dublin took the team title with a score of 711.5. Parkland (464) was second, Governor Mifflin (374.5) third, and Emmaus was fourth with a score of 295.

Emmaus finished second in the EPC with a league record of 8-1 and overall record of 12-5. Parkland won the EPC championship with a 9-0 EPC record and a 14-0 overall mark.

Swimmers have a break until Feb. 15 when they compete in the Last Chance Meet, which gives swimmers a final opportunity to qualify for districts.
