Frozen Trojans beat Emmaus
The Parkland High School ice hockey team had a busy, but successful stretch two weekends ago as it played two games in a span of four days and won them both.
After dropping its first game of the new year, the Trojans got back on track and began a win streak in 2025, first defeating the Saints 7-6 on Friday Jan. 24, and then taking down Emmaus 3-0 the following Monday night at Bethlehem Municipal Rink.
It was a furious comeback effort in the victory over the Saints as the Trojans fell behind 4-1 after the opening period and then 6-1 early on in the second period, before rattling off six unanswered goals to complete the come-from-behind win. Parkland scored twice in the final 0:39 of the second and then added four more goals in the third period, including the game-winner by Connor McGinty on an assist by Eric Zager with just 0:01 remaining.
Zager and Madison Morris both finished with two goals with Zager also adding four assists. McGinty had the goal and two assists and both Sawyer Marsteller and Bryce Haas found the back of the net once for the Trojans. Nathan Torres finished with 14 saves in net.
In the win over the Hornets, Morris got things started with a goal 9:23 into the first period on assists by Zager and McGinty. After a scoreless second period, Parkland added some insurance with a short-handed goal by Darren Lorch and then a goal from McGinty, assisted by Zager. Torres made 15 saves in net for the Trojans.
Parkland, which improved to 3-5 overall, has almost a month off before its final game of the 2024-25 regular season as it will take on Southern Lehigh on Monday, Feb. 24, at the Bethlehem Municipal Rink. The Trojans fell to the Spartans in their only other meeting earlier this season, 5-2 on Dec. 16.
