EHS beats Dieruff, falls to PHS
The Emmaus High School boys basketball team was able to get back into the win column last week as it split a pair of Eastern Pennsylvania Conference games in the final full week of the 2024-25 regular season.
The Hornets earned their first victory in two weeks as they defeated Dieruff 72-61 last Tuesday night, Jan. 28, and then two nights later, fell at Parkland 50-36.
In the win over the Huskies, it was a close game throughout as Emmaus held the slight edge over Dieruff, leading 20-18 after the opening quarter and then 37-32 at halftime. The advantage slightly rose to 53-46 heading into the final frame, and then the Hornets continued to push forward to hold onto their lead until the end.
Four Emmaus players finished in double digits in scoring, led by a game-high 20 points out of Matt Rooney, who also led his team with four 3-pointers. Owen Hafner tallied 17 points. Michael Rooney recorded 15 points and Jack Csensits netted 13 points. Gabriel Kabba notched four points.
It was a low-scoring affair early on in the game with the Trojans, as Parkland led just 7-6 after one and 18-14 at halftime. Parkland took control of the game in the fourth quarter as it took a 33-26 advantage and outscored Emmaus 17-10 in the final frame to come out with a victory.
Hafner finished with a team-best 14 points and Csensits tallied 10 points. Kabba ended with four points and both Lucas Stephan and Whitesell added three. Michael Rooney rounded out the scoring with two points.
Emmaus was 5-16 overall and 5-11 in the conference heading into the final the regular season game this past Monday night at home against Whitehall.
