Car scores 12 in win over ACC
The Parkland High School girls basketball team finished the regular season portion of its schedule last week and is taking some positive momentum into the postseason as it won two of its three games, all in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference.
The Trojans defeated Central Catholic 42-33 last Tuesday, fell just short against undefeated Emmaus 53-49 two nights later, but ended the regular season by taking down Dieruff 50-30 this past Monday.
In the win over the Vikettes, Parkland started from behind, trailing 8-5 after the first quarter, but used a strong second quarter to take a lead and hang on until the end. The Trojans outscored Central 16-5 to take a 21-13 advantage at halftime.
Sarah Car finished with a team-high 12 points. Aneri McGalla and Delaney Chilcote both tallied nine points and Isabella Hallal recorded eight points. Both Savannah Gonzalez and Cheryllana Cunningham each had two points.
Against the Hornets, Emmaus used a second-half surge to complete a comeback win.
Hallal, McGalla and Chilcote did most of the scoring for their team as they combined for 46 of the 49 points with Hallal finishing with 17, McGalla 16 and Chilcote 13. Morgan Volpe added three points.
The game with the Huskies was close throughout the first half. The Trojans took full control of the game in the third quarter, outscoring Dieruff 12-0 to go on top 40-19. Hallal tallied 15 points and Arielle Brown netted 14 points. Addison Fritzinger connected on three 3-pointers for nine points and Chilcote contributed seven points.
Parkland, which improved to 15-7 overall and 13-3 in the conference, earned the four seed in the EPC Tournament and will host Stroudsburg (18-4, 13-3), the fifth seed, Friday evening in the quarterfinal round at Parkland High School. The winner will take on the winner of the top seed, Emmaus, and eighth seed, Central Catholic, in the semifinal round Monday night at the PPL Center.
