Peter McGee Sr. Notre Dame of Bethlehem church

Peter McGee Sr., 93, of Northampton, died Feb. 6, 2025, at his residence. Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late James J. McGee and Mary Margaret (Pilzer) McGee. He was the husband of the late Mary J. (Schubert) McGee for 61 years.

He was a 1954 Bethlehem Catholic HS graduate and graduated from Penn State School of Labor Studies.

He was in the U.S. Air Force. During the Korean War, he was stationed in Japan as a crew chief with the All-Weather Fighter Squadron.

He was an executive board member and recording secretary for the Heat and Frost Insulators Union Local #23. He was responsible for many of the big projects for the insulators at Bethlehem Steel, including the Basic Oxygen Furnace.

He was a member of Notre Dame of Bethlehem Church.

He was a member of the Edward H. Ackerman Post 397, Hellertown. He and his late wife taught ballroom and round dancing nationally and internationally for many years.

He was a member of Notre Dame of Bethlehem Church.

He was a third and fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 4754.

He is survived by four children, Michele “Micki” L. Lerch of Northampton, Kevin M. (Deb Amico) of Palmerton, Lawrence P. (Susan) of York and William B. (Patricia) of Northampton; seven grandchildren, Jason M. Lerch (Megan), Alison (Jeremy) Bruce, Eric (Tathiana) of Allentown, William McGee of Philadelphia, Benjamin McGee of Philadelphia, Magdelena (Matthew) Berchtold of York and Ava (Llywelyn) McGee of Philadelphia; and six great-grandchildren, Emily and Jared Filchner of Bath; Piper, Quade and Dax Lerch of College Hill and Gabriella Ruiz of Allentown; three step-great-grandchildren, Emily Bruce of Wake Forest, North Carolina; Jacob Bruce of Northampton and Tawny (Joseph) Kane of Albrightsville; and three stepgreat-grandchildren, Collin Pauley, Alexa Pauley and Grace Kane, all of Albrightsville.

He was predeceased by three infant children; a son, Peter McGee Jr.; a grandson, L. Patrick McGee Jr.; a granddaughter, Caitlyn E. McGee; three brothers, James Jr., Joseph and Richard; and a sister, Theresa R. D’(Patrick) Emilio.

Arrangements were made by Connell Funeral Home Inc., Bethlehem.
