LHS eyes trip to EPC final

Liberty will have a chance to find themselves in Thursday’s EPC final, but the Hurricanes will need to do something that’s difficult in sports--beating a team three times in a season.

That was the task at hand Tuesday evening when Liberty took on Northampton in the EPC semifinals.

The Hurricanes held off Pocono Mountain East 50-46 last Friday night, thanks to Jake Pukszyn’s game-high 17 points, including the go-ahead basket late to put Liberty ahead 47-46 before finally holding on.

The second-seeded ‘Canes (19-4) advanced to play sixth-seeded Northampton (15-8), who upset Central Catholic 61-50 in the quarters.

Liberty defeated the K-Kids early in the season 35-22 and then posted a 49-37 victory on January 24.

The results of that contest were past Press deadlines, but a victory would push them to Thursday’s finals back at the PPL Center in Allentown against either top-seeded Pocono Mountain West or fifth-seeded Whitehall.

West knocked off Freedom (12-11) in Friday’s opening round 58-34.

Freedom will now get ready for next week’s District 11 tournament.

Thursday night’s EPC championship is slated for 8 p.m.
