North Catasauqua: Salem UCC soup, salad, sweets event scheduled for Feb. 15

Salem United Church of Christ, 615 Third St., Catasauqua, is having a soup, salad and sweets event 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Feb. 15. There will be a variety of soups, salad with choice of dressing, sweets and assorted beverages.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church 122 Union St., Catasauqua, will be holding a cold cash bingo Feb. 16 in the parish center. Doors and the kitchen open 11:30 a.m., and bingo starts 1 p.m.

There is a cost, which includes 15 games, six specials and one jackpot round. Bring your own daubers but no hard boards.

No outside food or drinks are permitted. The kitchen will be selling your favorites.

The next North Catasauqua Borough Council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Feb. 17 in the basement-level meeting room at borough hall, 1066 Fourth St. The meeting will be hybrid, with both in-person and virtual options.

St. John Fisher Catholic Church, 1239 Third St., is holding a sandwich fundraiser. The sandwich pickup will be 4-6 p.m. Feb. 26 in the parish basement hall.

The sandwiches, made by Kornfeind’s Market in Egypt, include roast beef, ham or turkey on a roll with American cheese and packets of mustard and mayonnaise.

Order forms are available at the church entrances with order forms and payment due Feb. 16.

Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church, 604 Fourth St., Catasauqua, will hold a meatloaf dinner Feb. 22 with seatings set for 4:30 p.m., 5 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.

The menu includes meatloaf with gravy, mashed potatoes, corn, roll and butter and a parfait with a cherry on top.

Reservations are required, with a deadline of Feb. 16. There is a cost.

The dinner benefits Jake’s Dragon Foundation, which is a nonprofit dedicated to funding pediatric cancer research, as well as helping families cope with financial burden.

Catasauqua Garden Club is chartering a bus to the Philadelphia Flower Show March 5. The bus departs 10 a.m. from the parking lot at Catasauqua Park and Playground, 501 American St., and will leave the show 5:30 p.m.

The cost of the trip includes bus, driver tip and flower show ticket. Lunch is on your own.

The North Catasauqua Borough Zoning Hearing Board public hearing that was scheduled for Feb. 5 was canceled and will be rescheduled.

The meeting is in regard to variances for 1021 and 1023 Fifth St. The intended subdivision will also propose a two-dwelling unit duplex and a single-family dwelling.

New four-way stop signs have been installed on Howertown Road at Willow Street. Police will be visible at the intersection to assist with driver awareness.

This is a direct result of a traffic study requested by residents due to traffic volume, speed and numerous bus stop issues at this intersection.

Catasauqua Community Thrift Shop, 113 Bridge St., is having a half-price sale on almost everything in the shop through Feb. 22. Regular shop hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The shop is happy to accept donations of good, used, clean clothing and household items and toys during regular store hours. Proceeds from the shop are returned to the community through contributions that support youth and adult programs and services.

Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church is once again holding its Warm-up Wednesdays initiative. Every Wednesday through March, there will be free soup 4-6 p.m. for the church family and community, merged with games, karaoke and puzzle nights 6-8 p.m.

St. Mary’s offers a biweekly grief support gathering for widows. This is a nondenominational gathering that offers conversation and support for those who have lost their spouse.
