Hanover Township delays Flock camera decision

At the Hanover Township, Lehigh County, Council meeting Feb. 5, council expanded the contract extension with Flock Safety from Feb. 5 until Feb. 28. Council was to make a decision Feb. 5 to keep or reject the cameras.

With the delay, the township will keep the 12 cameras purchased from Flock Safety. The cameras are located mostly on state roads in the township and will remain in service until Feb. 28. At that point, council will make a decision to keep or remove the cameras.

Council approved the Jan. 13 minutes of the reorganizations of the following commissions, boards and council: planning commission, recreation committee, zoning hearing board, council reorganization meeting and regular council meeting.

A Brosky Insurance representative discussed with council the insurance policies covering Hanover Township. After a review of the coverage, the representative suggested the township purchase cyber liability insurance.

The Brosky representative noted that changes made to the township’s insurance package can provide better coverage at a reduced cost. She advised the township to increase its liability insurance coverage from $1 million to $2 million.

Bill 2025-01 was introduced by council that, if approved, will amend Chapter 15, Section 801, of the statutory code of Hanover Township to add Hoover Avenue South and Hoover Avenue North to the street sweeping schedule. Bill 2025-01 also addresses wording in Chapter 15, Section 801, that clarifies the ordinance.

Council authorized to proceed with an LED (light emitting diode) streetlight upgrade in the area of Valley Plaza from capital funds, not to exceed $30,000. LED streetlights save costs in maintenance, use less electricity, last longer and reduce carbon emissions in steps toward a greener environment.

Council approved the township bills for Feb. 5 in the amount of $227,137.96.

Han-Le-Co Fire Company leaders opened the meeting by addressing council and asking council if they had any questions about their services. Council thanked the fire company for its ongoing dedicated service to the township.
