Rick Amato, current supervisor of science, technology, engineering and mathematics for the Bethlehem Area School District, has been named interim principal of Liberty HS until a permanent replacement for Dr. Harrison Bailey III is on board.

Bailey is leaving Liberty HS Feb. 14 to become Wilson Area School District superintendent.

“We are grateful for Dr. Bailey’s leadership and dedication at Liberty High School, and while we are sad to see him go, we are confident that Rick Amato will provide strong interim leadership during this transition,” said Dr. Jack P. Silva, superintendent of the Bethlehem Area School District. “His extensive experience with our district and his deep commitment to student success will ensure continuity for Liberty HS students and staff.”

Amato brings a wealth of experience in education, having served in various leadership roles within the district. Before his current position, he was the principal of Governor Wolf ES, principal of Broughal MS, and assistant principal at Wilson HS.

He began his career in the Bethlehem Area School District teaching at East Hills MS and Nitschmann MS.

Amato holds a bachelor of science degree from East Stroudsburg University and a master of education from Wilkes University.

The district has started the search for a permanent principal for Liberty HS, with an appointment expected in the coming months.
