Amato is Liberty HS interim principal

After 13 years at the helm of the city’s largest high school, Dr. Harrison Bailey III is leaving the Bethlehem Area School District to take on the role of superintendent of the Wilson Area School District. The transition was announced district-wide in December.

Rick Amato, current district supervisor of Science, Technology, Engineering and

Mathematics, will step in as interim principal until a permanent replacement is confirmed.

Amato brings a wealth of experience in education having served in various leadership roles within the district, including principal of Governor Wolf ES, principal of Broughal MS and assistant principal at Wilson Area HS. He began his career at BASD teaching at East Hills and Nitschmann middle schools.

“We are grateful for Dr. Bailey’s leadership and dedication at Liberty HS, and

while we are sad to see him go, we are confident that Mr. Amato will provide strong

interim leadership during this transition,” said Superintendent Dr. Jack P. Silva. “His extensive experience with our district and his deep commitment to student success will ensure continuity for Liberty HS students and staff.”

Amato holds a Bachelor of science degree from East Stroudsburg University and a

Master of education from Wilkes University. His experience and commitment to the

BASD will ensure a smooth transition at Liberty.

The district has begun the search for a permanent principal, with an appointment expected in the coming months.
