Strong senior group leads Trojan ice hockey

With just a few weeks remaining in the regular season, the Parkland High School ice hockey team is looking for a strong finish to the season.. Trojan head coach Tim Doe has a team has led by a talented group of seniors that are looking to close out their high school careers with a few more wins and maybe some postseason play in the Lehigh Valley Scholastic Hockey League.

“We aren’t where we want to be in the standings at this point in the season, but we’ve showed we can play with anybody,” said Doe. “We have big group of seniors who want to turn this ship around on their way out and a group of underclassmen who are playing big minutes, getting better every game.”

Aside from results on the ice, the program is still strong and led by a dedicated and committed group of people.

“The student-athletes, coaches, volunteers and parents ahead of us have paved the way for what can be at Parkland Ice Hockey,” Doe said. “It is essential that we honor the people who have come before us in everything we do in the organization.”

Doe talked about a couple of standout performers on the ice this season, including one upperclassmen and one underclassmen.

“Senior Eric Zager, following in the footsteps of his brothers, has been a key piece for our team this season,” said Doe. “He finds himself on the scoresheet most nights and is natural leader on and off the ice. Freshman Austen “Ace” Easler who missed time to start the season due to a lower body injury has jumped right in to make an impact. He tallied our only two goals in our most recent tilt against Bethlehem/Nazareth, displaying more skill and confidence each time he takes the ice.”

Parkland (5-1) has two more games left in the regular season against Emmaus this past Monday and Southern Lehigh on Monday, Feb. 24. The Trojans defeated the Hornets in the season opener 4-2 back on Oct. 28, and fell to the Spartans 5-2 on De. 16. Parkland is looking to add some more wins and find success in the postseason.

“We have a lot to prove in our last couple of games this season,” Doe said. “With games at hand, we control our own destiny at this point. We are right in the playoff race and our program is hungry to play for a title.”
