Salisbury girls basketball wins three straight games

With the toughest part of the 2024-25 girls basketball season schedule behind them, the Lady Falcons final stretch provides them with a softer landing to wrap up the regular season.

The team took advantage of the situation and put together a three-game winning streak before it ran into an inspired squad from Catasauqua that still has dreams of sneaking into the postseason.

The first two wins in the stretch came at home against Jim Thorpe (3-11 Colonial, 3-15 overall) and then on the road when the Falcons traveled to play Moravian Academy (2-13, 2-14). After that, they hosted Saucon Valley (0-15, 0-16) and picked up their third straight win.

The combined margin of victory for Salisbury was nearly 30 points per game, a turnaround for a team that on the losing end of some of those scores early in the season.

Against Saucon Valley, junior Kendra Morgan led all scorers with 28 points as Salisbury (5-10, 6-13) coasted to a 46-12 win, playing primarily in just three quarters as younger players saw more time in the final quarter of the game. Freshman Roxana Cardenas came off the bench to score eight points and classmate Sophia Gunning finished with five for Salisbury.

Catasauqua (8-6, 8-8) still has hopes of playing in both the league and district championship tournaments and was able to snap Salisbury’s three-game winning streak by handing the Falcons a 55-37 loss.

Salisbury finishes the season with two winnable games as they play at Southern Lehigh tonight and then wrap up the season at home against Palisades on Friday.

Salisbury coach Jason Laky has done a good job with a young team that features just one senior, Maya Suleiman, on the roster. The varsity experience that the younger players gained this season gives a brighter outlook for the Falcons down the road.
