The Parkland High School girls basketball team was looking for some positive momentum heading into the postseason with just about a week left in the regular season.
The Trojans were just 4-2 in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference competition since the start of the new year and were looking to add on some victories to position themselves better for the EPC and District 11 6A Tournaments.
Last week helped in that matter as Parkland defeated Allen 60-24 last Tuesday, Jan. 21, and then followed that up with a 58-39 victory at Whitehall on Friday night.
The Trojans raced out to a 23-4 lead over Allen after the opening quarter and a 33-10 advantage at halftime. Isabella Hallal finished with a game-high 14 points and Aneri McGalla tallied 12 points. Both Delaney Chilcote and Yana Smaltz contributed seven points.
In the victory against the Zephyrs, the game was won in the second quarter as Parkland extended a 13-9 lead after one quarter to 34-16 at halftime.
The Trojans stayed out in front by double figures the rest of the way. Chilcote was the lone player in double figures with 17 points. Both Hallal and Cheryllana Cunningham tallied eight points. Each of McGalla, Sarah Car and Arielle Brown contributed six points, while Savannah Gonzalez added five.
Parkland, which improved to 13-6 overall and 11-2 in the conference, has three regular season games left, all of them in conference play and on the road. The Trojans were at Central Catholic this past Tuesday, travel to Emmaus on Thursday night and then have the season finale at Dieruff on Monday night.
