Nassry drops 30 points on Allen
The Parkland High School boys basketball team has enjoyed playing Eastern Pennsylvania Conference games since the start of the new year. Entering the start of last week, the Trojans had won their last five conference games, and then kept the train rolling with two more games last week.
Parkland mounted a comeback victory against Allen last Tuesday, Jan. 21, winning 63-60. The Trojans followed that up with a statement win over Whitehall, 57-42 on Friday night, amassing some revenge from the first game they played during the season when the Zephyrs got the better of Parkland.
In the victory over the Canaries, Parkland trailed following each of the first three quarters, but outscored Allen 20-14 in the final quarter to complete the comeback. The Trojans trailed 15-12 after one and 26-24 at halftime, with a 46-43 deficit heading to the fourth.
Blake Nassry finished with a season-best and game-high 30 points and connected on five 3-pointers. TJ Lawrence tallied 13 points and Jude Ruisch added eight points. Derek Giegbefumwen and Nassim Adams both contributed four points.
In the win against the Zephyrs on Hall of Fame night, it was a different go around as the Trojans jumped out to a 22-10 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Nassry once again had a monster game, pouring in 27 points. Ruisch netted 13 points. Ryan Kearney tallied six points with Lawrence adding five. Both Adams and Tyler Beck rounded out the scoring with three points each.
Parkland, which improved to 11-7 overall and 9-4 in the conference, has four more games left during the regular season, including three conference games. The Trojans were at Central Catholic this past Tuesday and host Emmaus on Thursday night. The annual Hoop Group then brings a matchup against Hudson Catholic out of New Jersey on Sunday, before the season finale at home against Dieruff next Monday night.
