LHS girls fall to Easton

Liberty’s girls basketball team met Easton for the second time this season but saw their eight-point lead evaporate in the fourth quarter and went home with a 48-43 loss on Jan. 28.

Liberty led the game for most of the night at Easton Area Middle School as the Red Rovers missed two opportunities to tie the Hurricanes right before halftime.

Liberty guard Anijah Davis (16 points) had the hot hand for the ‘Canes and sank consecutive 3-pointers in the third quarter, extending the lead to 10 points.

Easton’s Melina Cole and Natalie Amato’s triples brought the Rovers within one, but Chloe Rumelhart’s bucket after a turnover kept Liberty ahead.

Cole finally tied the game, 41-4,1 with 4:05 remaining, and Elena Brunetti added four points for Easton at the 2:04 mark.

While Liberty was in its full-court press, Easton responded with a double-team on Hurricane guard Ava Kopetskie (12 points).

Liberty’s Davis scored on a layup, but the Hurricanes were unable to regain another possession in the last 30 seconds.

The Hurricanes will have faced another Lehigh Valley rival in Nazareth for their last game of the regular season on Feb. 3 at Liberty.
