King leads boys swimmers in win over ‘Canes

The Emmaus boys swim team welcomed the Liberty Hurricanes to the EHS natatorium recently and sent the visitors home with a loss after Emmaus defeated the ‘Canes 120-62. Four different swimmers finished with top spots in their events and two of the three relay teams turned in the fastest times in events with three Emmaus teams sweeping the top three spots in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

It was another big day for senior Brady King, who won both the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke. King edged teammates Julian Vlaeminck (50.08) and Reese Wunderler (53.92) as the Hornets took the top three spots. In the backstroke, King won the event by 3.43 seconds.

Emmaus also dominated the 200 and 500-yard freestyle events when they swept those events. The 200 freestyle had Griffin Messenlehner finishing with a comfortable margin over teammates Carter Smith (1:56.61) and Brennan Smith (1:57.13).

Brennan Smith was the top guy in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:12.24. Aaron Kenny was second with a mark of 5:13.57 and Brady Hazlett took third at 5:13.90. Emmaus also had Nate Peters swimming the event as an exhibition and the junior turned in a time of 5:13.33, which would have been good enough for second place.

In the 50-yard freestyle, Emmaus hoped for a sweep when Vlaeminck got a win with a time of 22.35 and Wunderler placed second at 24.13, but Liberty was able to capture third.

In relay events, Liberty was unable to find a spot among the top three finishers as Emmaus dominated. Vlaeminck, Wunderler, Messenlehner, and Brady King took the top spot with a time of 3:25.83, Peters, Roman Herman, Reid Lovett, and Will Reichart were just 4.58 seconds off the pace and Matt Sirignano, Seamus Daly, Liam Schaefer, and Jack Duerholz had a time of 3:42.22 to take third.

Diver Doug Cornish came up just short of the top spot and finished with a final score of 185.75 with Liberty’s Jaxson Dorsey posting a 192.10 score for the Hurricanes.

Emmaus has a dual meet against Freedom this week to wrap up the dual meet season and then will compete in Saturday’s Cedar Crest Classic at Parkland High School.
