Hornet girls sweep relays vs. LHS

Emmaus girls swimming and diving team picked up a win in tits penultimate dual meet of the season against Liberty recently.

The 121-64 win saw three different swimmers and a diver pick up first-place finishes and the Hornets swept all three relay events as well. Emmaus also swept the top three finishes in three different individual events.

In freestyle events, senior Veronica Karboski grabbed a pair of top times to win the 100 and 200-yard freestyle races with teammates taking second and third in both of those events. In the 100 freestyle, Karboski turned in a time of 56.95 seconds to finish ahead of Sriya Reddy (58.01) and Gabriella Antunes (1:00.04). The 200 was not quite as close as Karboski beat teammate Bella Marsh by 5.83 seconds with Reagan Coffey just 0.48 seconds behind Marsh.

Emmaus swimmers also took the top three finishes in the 500-yard freestyle where freshman Keilani Silva finished with a time of 5:22.63 and was followed by Babs Lyons at 5:54.29 and Coffey at 6:06.69.

Sophia Harmon, a junior, set a pair of personal marks by swimming the 50-yardd freestyle in a personal best time of 25.55 to finish 1.87 seconds ahead of teammate Natalie Cheplick. Harmon also set a season-best time in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:12.44.

Emmaus commanded the relay events with the top two finishes in both the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay. The foursome of Silva, Lyons, Antunes, and Mabry Krause finished just under four seconds ahead of Harmon, Marsh, Reddy, and Antunes.

In the 400 freestyle relay, Silva, Antunes, Karboski, and Krause finished with a time of 3:52.60 with Lyons, Marsh, Reddy, and Kendall Shriver coming in second at 4:09.09

The Hornets also took the top spot in the 200-yard medley relay with Silva, Lyons, Antunes, and Krause edging a team from Liberty by just 0.63 seconds.

Combining individual events and relays both Karboski and Silva had four first place finishes to their credit and Krause had three.

Junior Elle Bagley won a highly contested diving competition when she edged Liberty’s Eva Madeira 176.05 to 175.20.

Emmaus wraps up the dual meet season this week against Freedom and on Saturday will compete in the Cedar Crest Classic at Parkland High School.
