Emmaus boys basketball drops games to Allen, ACC, So. Lehigh

The Emmaus High School boys basketball team had a rough go of it last week as the Hornets lost all three of their games, two of them in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference.

Emmaus lost to Central Catholic 78-35 last Tuesday night, fell 70-59 against Southern Lehigh last Thursday and then dropped a home conference game against Allen, 74-52, this past Friday night.

Against the Vikings, the Hornets kept it close through the opening quarter, but CCHS pulled away in the second, doubling up Emmaus 14-7 to go ahead 34-18 at halftime.

It never got closer from there as the Hornets only scored three points in the third quarter. Lucas Stephan led the Hornet offense with nine points, draining three 3-pointers. Matthew Rooney tallied seven points, including two 3-pointers. Chase Whitesell added five points.

In the game with the Spartans, Emmaus led early and had control of the game up until halftime, but it was a sluggish second half that doomed the Hornets. They held a 31-27 advantage at halftime, but was outscored 43-28 in the second half, including 24-15 in the final frame.

Owen Hafner led the way with a team-high 18 points. Stephan tallied 14 points and Mike Rooney finished with 11 points. Jack Csensits contributed seven points.

The Canaries came out strong on the road and scored 26 first-quarter points, compared to just 16 from Emmaus. The double-digit lead continued into the second half as Allen led 44-31 at halftime and 58-40 after three. Csensits netted a team-high 20 points and Hafner notched 13 points. Mike Rooney added nine points for the Green Hornets.

Emmaus, which is now 4-15 overall and 4-9 in the conference, heads into this week with three regular season games left on the schedule. The Hornets played at Dieruff on Tuesday and then travel to Parkland on Thursday night before competing in the season finale against Whitehall at home next Monday night.
