EHS girls basketball stays unbeaten in league play

The Emmaus High School girls basketball team continued its winning ways last week and went three-for-three, including two wins in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference. The Hornets remained undefeated three games remaining in the regular season.

Emmaus began the week with a 53-48 victory over Central Catholic last Tuesday, Jan. 21, and then took down Allen 56-26 on Friday night.

The next day, the Hornets beat East Stroudsburg South 74-12 in a nonconference matchup.

In the win over the Vikettes, it was a tale of two halves as Emmaus trailed 30-22 at halftime, but outscored them 31-18 in the second half to complete the comeback.

Cassie Doemling recorded a double-double, finishing with 17 points and 10 rebounds for EHS. Gabby DeVita recorded 14 points and Kayla Snyder added 13.

In the victory against the Canaries, Emmaus jumped out to a 13-0 lead to start the game and never looked back, taking a 34-14 lead at halftime and cruising the rest of the way.

DeVita had a game-high 15 points, while Doemling and Olive Whitney each netted 12 points. Sylvia Sokolofski contributed five points and Sofie Laird chipped in four points.

It was never really a contest against the Cavaliers as the Hornets jumped out to leads of 27-3 after one quarter and 55-5 at halftime.

DeVita finished with a game-high 26 points, including a team-best three 3-pointers. Doemling tallied 11 points as 13 different players hit the scoring column.

Snyder had six points, both Sierra Stevens and Kaitlyn Grochowski contributed five points and Sokolofski, Laird and Emma Naccarato added four points.

Emmaus, which improved to 17-1 overall and 13-0 in the conference, has now won 15 games in a row.

The Hornets have three games left in the regular season, all three are conference games.

They hosted Dieruff this past Tuesday and welcome rival Parkland to town on Thursday night. The regular season finale is scheduled for next Monday night at Whitehall.
