Blunt takes third in CL

The Salisbury High School wrestling team finished seventh out of 14 teams at the recent Colonial League Wrestling Championships, held Jan. 18 at Catasauqua High School.

The Falcons were led by a third-place finish from freshman Jarrod Blunt and senior Nathaniel Tone’s fourth-place performance.

Blunt pinned his first-round opponent then won by technical fall in the quarterfinals.

After a loss to Southern Lehigh’s Griffin King in the semifinals, Blunt pinned Northwestern’s Braydon Urrichio to get to the medal round.

The Falcons 127-poounder beat Bangor’s Cole Smith by a 4-2 decision in the third-place match.

Tone got to semifinals with a win by fall in the first round and another by decision in the quarterfinals. Eventual 145-pound champ Colby Townley (Northwestern) beat Tone in semifinals.

Tone won his consolation semifinal by major decision, 13-2 over Jonathan Cordon-Pinto (Catasauqua) before falling to Evan Wentz (Lehighton) in the third-place match.

Salisbury, which went 0-6 in Colonial League dual meets this season, had just eight wrestlers competing in the championship tournament. Five of them made it to semifinals. Michael Segata (139), Jordon Tocci-Wachter (152) and Sam Krauss (285) all reached the semifinals and teammates Jacob Spinner (114) and Colton Tone (160) both wrestled back to consolation semifinals after dropping their opening matches.

The Falcons ended their league dual meet schedule last Thursday with a 54-8 loss to Southern Lehigh. Nathaniel Tone won by technical fall in the loss, while Spinner earned a win by decision.

The Falcons dropped a 71-0 match against Notre Dame (Green Pond) Jan. 16 just two days after falling to Pen Argyl 39-26.

Blunt and Krauss both pinned their Green Knight opponents, while Spinner won by technical fall. Nathaniel Tone, Tocci-Wachter and Jacob Watson all earned wins by decision against Pen Argyl.
