LIBERTY HS NEWS By Finn Dougherty

After an impactful tenure at Liberty Hs, Dr. Harrison Bailey III gets ready to undertake a new role as the superintendent of the Wilson School District in West Lawn. His exit marks the end of an era at Liberty, where he has led as principal for the past 13 years. As Dr. Bailey starts this exciting new chapter in his career, students, faculty and the whole of Liberty HS are looking back on his legacy and what he has meant to the school.

Upon arriving at Liberty in 2012, Dr. Bailey’s passion for excellence and diversity immediately inspired a dedicated school and community. It created notable improvements regarding both student achievement and involvement. He believes in building such a great and supportive environment so that the community of students would learn to take part more and get attached with enthusiasm toward school life, particularly in self-discovery.

As principal, Dr. Bailey strove to ensure that every student felt welcome in the school. During his tenure, he brought in various programs to increase inclusivity, raise awareness about mental health, and raise academic rigor. He had an open-door policy where students and staff alike could see him. His listening ear to the needs of the community garnered him respect and admiration from his Liberty family.

Undeniably, the most memorable moments within Dr. Bailey’s tenancy are a commitment to furthering mental health programs in our school. During his time in the school administration, he led more advocacy from within our student body and facilitated different tools and resources, like what is referred to as The Peace Room, to help students endure mental turmoil. This part of the school functions with professionals studying at Moravian University to further help the students embrace their feelings. Dr. Bailey realized the need for a well-rounded education where the students could excel not only academically but also creatively.

Beyond academics, Dr. Bailey has been a committed supporter of the athletic programs at Liberty and its extracurricular activities, always present, loud and proud, at the football field for homecoming, school plays and musicals, cultivating school spirit and pride. The energy and enthusiasm for the school were contagious.

Dr. Bailey said he is grateful for the time he has spent at Liberty, calling it, “an honor to be part of such a vibrant and dedicated community.” He also extended his best wishes to the students and faculty, encouraging them to continue striving for excellence in all aspects of their lives.

On behalf of Liberty HS: Good luck in this new position, as you have remained etched in our minds throughout your tenure with us, Dr. Harrison Bailey III.
