3 homes damaged in North Street fire

City firefighters rushed to a reported structure fire at 38 W. North Street around 8 a.m. Jan. 29, arriving in only two-and-a-half minutes to combat a blaze consuming multiple floor of the building.

Fire Chief Michael Reich said in a release that while the fire’s cause was deemed accidental, its severity was amplified by high winds.

Three residences were affected, and everyone within was able to exit to safety unharmed.

The Allentown Fire Department responded to Bethlehem’s request to help cover any additional emergencies until Bethlehem reserve units could be activated, and the city’s EMS and Nancy Run Fire Company, with its mobile cascade truck, city police and streets department, all assisted at the scene.

Two firefighters sustained with minor burns and fall injuries, respectively, and were treated and released from hospital the same day.

The Red Cross assisted all affected residents.
