Northampton swimming sweeps Allen

The Northampton swimming and diving team bested William Allen with wins for both the girls’ and boys’ teams on Tuesday night, Jan. 29. With these wins, the boys’ team moves to a 9-2 record, and the girls’ team nears the end of the season with a 7-4 record. This meet at Allen was the team’s last away meet of the regular season.

Tuesday’s matchup brought a long list of first-place finishes and personal best times for the Northampton squad.

Northampton had a clean sweep of the relay events, beginning with a first-place finish in the girl’s 200-yard medley relay for the team of Toni Bubier, Amelia Sommons, Olivia Kuhns, and Ava Keenan. Summons and Keenan were joined by teammates Gabriela Oswald and Elizabeth Sponsler in the 200-yard freestyle relay event, where Northampton also grabbed a first-place finish. Finally, the team of Bubier, Kostik, Sponsler, and Allison Lindenmoyer clinched a first-place finish in the girls’ 400-yard freestyle relay to end the events for the Northampton girls on Tuesday evening.

With similar prowess, the boys’ team also swept their relay events, beginning with a first-place finish in the boys’ 200-yard medley relay for the Northampton team of Jaxson Sandt, Aiden Kuntz, Logan Saylor, and Brody Warner. Warner also joined teammates Ethan Brobst, Liam Beck, and Josiah Hippert for a first-place finish in the boys’ 200-yard freestyle relay. Finally, the Northampton boys relay team of Brobst, Kuntz, Sandt, and Henry Schoeneberger closed out the meet with a first-place win in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

In the individual events, Sofia Pina took first place in the 200-yard freestyle, freshman Sophia Kostik was first to the wall in the girls’ 200-yard individual medley event, Oswald grabbed a first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, and Keenan was first to the wall in the 100-yard freestyle. Sommons claimed first-place honors in the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke events, and Kuhns showed her versatility as a swimmer, taking first place in both the girls’ 50-yard sprint event and the girls’ 500-yard freestyle distance event.

For the Northampton boys, Hippert was first in the boys’ 200-yard freestyle; Warner secured a pair of 1st place finishes in the boys’ 200-yard individual medley and the boys’ 100-yard freestyle events. Schoeneberger claimed a first-place finish in the boys’ 50-yard freestyle sprint, Saylor was first for the boys’ 100-yard butterfly, junior Nick Isaac was first in the boys’ 100-yard backstroke, and senior Aiden Kuntz completed a long list of first-place finishes for Northampton with a win in the 100-yard breaststroke event.

As the season nears an end the team’s work is far from over as preparation for district championships will continue for the Northampton team. The team looks forward to closing out their regular 2024-2025 season schedule as they welcome Stroudsburg High School for the last (home) meet of the season on Thursday, Feb. 6, at 4 p.m.
