Freedom and Liberty won’t be making an appearance at this week’s District 11 team wrestling tournament, but they’ll have a chance to get one more big match on Wednesday when both rivals square off at Liberty’s Memorial Gymnasium.
Freedom (10-6) essentially fell one spot short of qualifying for the postseason when they lost to Parkland last week 37-29. The win pushed the Trojans into the eighth and final seed. Even if Freedom would beat Liberty on Wednesday night in the regular season finale, Parkland wrestles East Stroudsburg South in a match they shouldn’t lose, keeping them in position to qualify.
Liberty (8-9) went 2-3 at the Quakertown Duals last weekend, winning their first two bouts of the day by knocking off West Scranton 47-27 and Quakertown 34-31 before dropping their final three bouts.
The ‘Canes fell to Delaware Military Academy 36-24, Delaware Valley 36-30 and Saucon Valley 41-23. They followed that up with a loss to Easton on Monday night 45-24.
Both teams will finish up this week and then get ready for the individual postseason, which gets underway on Feb. 21 with the District 11 tournament.
