Eula Mae Harrington

an independent woman, hard worker

Eula Mae Harrington, 104, died peacefully on Jan. 23, 2025.

A beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be remembered for her love of God and her family.

Born June 18, 1920, in Elkins, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Holt and Belva Chenoweth.

The youngest of eight children, in her early 20s, she ventured from the mountains where she grew up with no electricity or indoor plumbing to live in Baltimore, Md., where she met her husband, Charles.

They married on May 16, 1943, and enjoyed 74 years together.

They had three sons, 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She worked for the former A&P Market, Essex, Md., for 25 years, from 1958-83.

After retirement, she moved to Florida with her husband for eight months of the year where they enjoyed attending church, outings with friends and shopping.

In their early 90s, they moved to New Tripoli to be with family.

Still an independent woman, she kept home in their apartment and spent time reading her Bible, watching sermons on TV, and enjoying pictures of her family when they weren’t there in person.

A hard worker who never left a task undone, her family often found her bustling around the house keeping everything in order.

She loved to feed her family and would always offer a sweet treat.

She took pleasure in watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren laugh and play together.

Her survivors include sons Patrick and his wife, Lola Harrington, of New Tripoli, and Philip Harrington of Maryland; grandchildren Sean and Patrick Harrington Jr., Amanda Soule, Adam Harrington, Rachel Tapper, Ashley, Mia, Alana, Lydia and Hallie Harrington, Taylor Moore and Kevin Harrington; great-grandchildren Molly and Ian Laros, Adalyn and Kenley Tapper, Charles and Ellie Harrington, and Roree and Leslie Velazquez; and daughter-in-law Janie Harrington.

She was predeceased by her husband, son Donald Harrington, granddaughter Heather Laros and her seven siblings.

Services will be private, at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Bethany Wesleyan Church Benevolence Fund, P.O. Box 999, Cherryville, PA 18035.
