Alan Michael Hertzog
Alan Michael Hertzog, 78, of Carolina Shores, N.C, died Jan. 16, 2025, at Lower Cape Fear Life Care Center, Wilmington, N.C.
He was the loving husband of Joan (Witczak) Hertzog. The couple celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary Oct. 31, 2024.
Born in Allentown, raised in Alburtis, he was the son of the late Carl and Betty (Blank) Hertzog.
He was a 1964 graduate of Emmaus High School; served in the U.S. Air Force 1966 to 1969 and was a Pennsylvania State Police Trooper 1972 to 1994. He was last employed at Oyster Bay Golf Links, Sunset Beach, N.C. as starter/ranger 1994 to 2016.
He was an avid golfer and fisherman, enjoyed playing spirited games of poker with friends and combing the beaches for seashells, making amazing shell creations. He was nearly unbeatable at chess and scrabble. Additional hobbies were slow-pitch softball, bowling and hunting.
He was a member of Calabash Covenant Presbyterian Church, Sunset Beach, N.C.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Rory and his wife, Melissa; grandchildren, Rider and Anna, of Allentown; brother, Dennis, of Bethlehem; sisters, Judy Meyers, of Allentown, Linda and her husband, William DeLong, of Allentown, Donna and her husband, Michael Lasko Jr., of Allentown; sisters-in-law: Sandy, of Pottstown, Lisa and her husband, Bruce Kindred, of Mertztown.
He was predeceased by brothers, Glenn and Dale; sister, Kay Balascak.
A Celebration of Life will be held 3 p.m. Feb. 7 at Calabash Covenant Presbyterian Church, Sunset Beach, N.C.
