EHS names student of the week
Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?
A. I am currently a senior at Emmaus High School.
Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.
A. My father is Jeff, my mother is Mary Kay, my twin brother is Jackson, my sister is Ava and my dog is Venus.
Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?
A. My favorite subject is physics because it combines two of my strongest subjects, math and science, and helps to explain how the world works.
Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A. I have made the principal’s honor roll all four years and marking periods of high school, as well as being inducted into both National Honor Society and German Honor Society.
Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has being involved in these organizations impacted your high school experience?
A. I have been a part of the Emmaus boys volleyball team for four years along with being a part of multiple Amateur Athletic Union club teams. This has allowed me to compete at a very high level whether that be competing nationally in AAU tournaments, or being able to compete in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association, Inc. state volleyball tournament. During my sophomore year, we (Emmaus boys varsity volleyball) were able to obtain a top 20 national ranking according to the American Volleyball Coaches Association. I have also had the honor of being able to be a founding member of Emmaus High School’s chapter of Aevidum, a student-led club aimed at breaking the stigma against mental health. Both volleyball and Aevidum have allowed me to create meaningful relationships that will last a lifetime along with allowing me to leave a legacy at my school and within the community. I have also lifeguarded for three years and learned values of leadership, hard work and teamwork.
Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?
A. My biggest challenge to date would be the ability to balance achieving a high academic stature while being active in my community and traveling for volleyball.
Q. What is your next goal after high school?
A. I plan on attending college to study electrical engineering with a minor in computer science whilst also competing in National Collegiate Athletic Association mens volleyball.
Q. If you could spend an evening conversing with an historically significant person, whom would you choose? Why?
A. I would have to choose Robert Oppenheimer as I believe he is one of the greatest physicists of all time and would definitely have a lot of interesting topics to talk about.
Q. For what would you like to be remembered?
A. I would like to be remembered for my eagerness to connect and learn in my school and community.
Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?
A. My advice would be to live in the moment and in the words of Ferris Beuler “Life moves pretty fast, if you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you might miss it.”
