Young swimmers lead Emmaus girls at recent meets
The Emmaus girls swim team picked up a 116.5 to 69.5 win over Easton recently in an East Penn Conference dual meet. In the prestigious Wilson Relays, the Lady Hornets finished fifth in the team standings. In both meets, some young swimmers continued to put together impressive performances.
Junior Gabriella Antunes won both the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard individual medley for Emmaus. Antunes had to hold off a challenge from Easton’s Lyla Troxell to win the breaststroke as she finished less than a second ahead of Troxell for the win. In the IM, Antunes had an easier time as she again bested Troxell, winning this time by just over six seconds.
Emmaus swimmers took two of the top three spots in the 100-yard freestyle with sophomore Mabry Krause finishing first with a time of 55.55 and freshman Reagan Coffey placing third with a personal best time of 1:01.52 for the Hornets. Coffey, a freshman, was the winner of the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:12.61, just ahead of classmate Sriya Reddy, who finished at 2:13.32 for Emmaus.
Keilani Silva bested Easton’s Alexia Nalli by 0.95 seconds to win the 50-yard freestyle event.
In distance swimming, Sophia Harmon turned in a season best time of 6:05.91 in the 500-yard freestyle to edge Nalli. Emmaus freshmen Sriya Reddy and Ella Schucavage finished third and fourth in the event.
In relays, Antunes, Krause, Silva, and Babs Lyons won the 200-yard IM by nearly six seconds over a team from Easton. Harmon, Krause, Silva, and Druthi Reddy easily took the first place finish over Easton in the 200-yard freestyle with a margin of over 10 seconds. Emmaus closed out the sweep of relay events against Easton by finishing first and second in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The top team had Harmon, Krause, Silva, and Sriya Reddy, who finished with a time of 3:49.11, well ahead of teammates Coffey, Antunes, Kendall Shriver, and Druthi Reddy who finished at the 4:12.75 mark.
At the Wilson Relays, the top finishing team was the team of Keilani Silva, Mabry Krause, Liz Mazzetti, and Sriya Reddy as they finished third in the 200-yard freestyle relay just 1.65 seconds behind the pace set by North Penn High School. Upper Dublin took the team competition with Wilson West Lawn finishing second. Governor Mifflin, North Penn, and Emmaus rounded out the top five teams.
Emmaus travels to Stroudsburg this week before swimming against Wilson West Lawn in a home meet on Friday.
