The Salisbury girls basketball team is working its way through a tough portion of the schedule, having games against top Colonial League teams Northwestern Lehigh, Palmerton, Notre Dame of Green Pond and Wilson recently.
The Falcons struggled against Northwestern and bounced back to play the Blue Bombers tough before falling to them as well. The upcoming week has the Crusaders and Warriors on the schedule to provide challenges for Salisbury.
The Falcons (2-7 Colonial, 3-10 overall) downed Saucon Valley 40-19 before venturing into the heavier portion of the schedule over the past week.
Kendra Morgan continues to wield the hot hand offensively for Salisbury as she scored 17 points against both Northwestern Lehigh (12-0, 15-1) and Palmerton (11-2, 13-3). Morgan and Isabella Nimeh were the only two players to get into the scoring column against one of the toughest defenses in the area when they went up against Northwestern and lost 56-19.
Against Palmerton, the Falcons looked to come from behind after digging themselves into a 46-24 deficit through the first three quarters. In addition to Morgan’s 17 points, freshmen Sophia Gunning scored nine and Roxana Cardenas finished with five points while sophomore Izabelle Gonzales scored six in the game for the Falcons, who fell to the Blue Bombers 49-39 at Palmerton.
This week, Salisbury hosts Notre Dame of Green Pond (10-1, 11-3), Wilson (7-5, 9-5), and Jim Thorpe (3-7, 3-9) before playing on the road against Moravian Academy (2-8, 2-8) on Tuesday.
