PHS goes 3-0 at dual tourney

The Parkland girls wrestling team went 3-0 and took first place in the Parkland Duals Saturday.

The host Trojans beat Pennsbury 59-18 in the first round and Pocono Mountain East 65-11 in the semifinals. Parkland finished the day with a 43-28 win over Emmaus in the championship match.

Against Pennsbury, the Trojans won 10 of the 13 matches including six pins by Ella Hesener (106), Lily Snook (112), Saige Rittenhouse (124), Angelina Spachman (142), Natalie Deutsch (155) and Lizkarla Grullon Vasquez (170). Victoria Lasagna (136) earned a win by technical fall while teammates Courtney Brevik (100), Chloe Grady (190) and Kendall Solenske (235) picked up wins by forfeit for Parkland.

In the win over the Cardinals, Parkland took 11 matches and won seven by fall. Snook (106), Payton Ocasio (112), Rittenhouse (118), Leila Palmieri (130), Lasagna (136), Spachman (142) and Grullon Vazquez (190) pinned their Pocono Mountain East opponents. Hesener (100) won by technical fall. Carissa Kalmar (148), Deutsch (155) and Solenske (235) picked up forfeit wins.

In the tournament final, Parkland took an early 27-6 lead on pins from Ocasio (112), Rittenhouse (124) and Spachman (142), along with Lasagna’s win by decision at 136 and a Teagan Tremba (118) win by forfeit.

Emmaus won three straight matches to pull within 27-22 before Parkland won three of the last four matches on a Grullon Vasquez got a pin at 190, Hesener’s major decision at 100 and a Snook win by forfeit at 106.
