PHS boys basketball team beats Bears, Green Hornets
Since the turn of the new calendar year, the Parkland High School boys basketball team is unbeaten in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference competition, winning its first three games in conference play, including two last week on the road, before falling in a nonconference game at home.
Last Tuesday, Jan. 7, the Trojans took down rival Emmaus on its home floor 61-36 and then took care of Pleasant Valley 61-28 in Brodheadsville on Friday night. But the week ended with a 53-49 setback in nonconference play to Central York on Saturday in a rematch of last year’s state title game.
It was a closely contested game through the first two quarters in the win over the Hornets as Parkland led just 11-10 after the opening quarter and 26-19 at halftime. The Trojans took control of the game in the third quarter, outscoring Emmaus 22-8.
Tyler Beck led all scorers with 16 points, while Blake Nassry finished with 14 points. Cameron Hines and Ryan Kearney both recorded seven points and Jude Ruisch tallied six points.
In the victory over the Bears, Parkland jumped out in front early and never looked back. The Trojans allowed just two points in the first quarter and went into halftime on top 41-7.
Nassry totaled a team-best 13 points and both Hines and Ruisch contributed eight points. Javian Porter netted seven points, Blake Borcoman added six and TJ Lawrence had five.
Against Central York, the two teams were neck-and-neck most of the game and it came down to a couple of plays in the fourth quarter. The Trojans trailed 10-7 after one and 21-18 at halftime, while entering the fourth quarter down just 36-32.
Nassry finished with a game-high 23 points to lead the way, while both Lawrence and Hines had 10 points. Ruisch rounded out the scoring with six points.
Parkland, which improved to 7-6 overall and 5-4 in the conference, hosted Easton on Tuesday night and is at Dieruff on Thursday night to conclude the week.
