The Parkland High School ice hockey team is gearing up for the final quarter of its 2024-25 regular season in the Lehigh Valley Scholastic Hockey League.
The Trojans are one of six teams competing in the league and they have played six of their 10 games so far. The other five teams include Emmaus, Southern Lehigh, Northampton, Nazareth and the Saints (Bethlehem Catholic, Central Catholic and Notre Dame Green Pond co-op team).
Parkland is 1-5 overall for two points and is tied with the Green Hornets in last place.
The Trojans opened the season with a 4-2 victory over Emmaus on Oct. 28. Since that date, they have lost five in a row, including the last game, a 6-2 defeat to Nazareth this past Monday night.
In the win over the Hornets, the Trojans took an early 2-0 lead in the first period and remained on top 2-1 after one. After a scoreless second period, Parkland once again outscored Emmaus 2-1 to complete the 4-2 victory. Connor McGinty scored the opening goal of the first and third periods.
Logan Vaitekonis tallied his goal in the first period and Jackson Yocum completed the scoring in the third period. Eric Zager contributed two assists and each of Yocum, Grant Lake and Liam Ried.
Parkland outshot Emmaus 42-23. Nathan Torres finished with 21 saves in goal for the Trojans and a .913 save percentage.
Parkland still has a makeup game against Northampton to be rescheduled after the postponed game on Dec. 27.
