Parkland girls wrestlers capture second straight tournament title

The Parkland High School girls wrestling team completed its second straight successful tournament to start the new calendar year.

After winning their home tournament, the Parkland Duals, on the first weekend of January, the Trojans won the Mid-Winter Mayhem Invitational last Saturday at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, placing first out of 36 teams with 144.5 points.

Parkland has now won two tournaments and finished second in two others this season. The Trojans are 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference.

There was one other conference team at the event as Pocono Mountain East finished fifth overall with 83.5 points.

Ella Hesener finished first overall in the 100-pound field, earning a pin over General McLane’s Ella Clark in the championship final. She went 4-0 on the day.

Saige Rittenhouse won her first three bouts at 112 pounds, but fell in the final to place second overall. Angelina Spachman pinned Alyssa Tresco from Kiski Area to capture third place at 142 pounds. Lily Snook finished fourth overall at 106 pounds and Payton Ocasio was fourth at 118 pounds to highlight some of the top performing Trojans.

Parkland has a conference dual match at Emmaus Wednesday and then will compete in the Lebanon Tournament at Lebanon High School on Sunday.
