Parkland competes in holiday tournament
The Parkland High School boys basketball team headed to Philadelphia over the holiday break to play in the Widener University Holiday Tournament before getting back into East Penn Conference play after the new year.
The Trojans defeated Middletown (Del.) 60-48 in the opening game of the holiday tournament to snap a four-game losing streak and then dropped the second game two days later 53-36 to Central Dauphin. Last Friday, Parkland got back into conference play and defeated East Stroudsburg South 61-22 at home before beating Emmaus Tuesday.
In the win over Middletown, Parkland jumped out to a 20-6 lead after the opening quarter and led 33-21 at halftime.
TJ Lawrence tallied a team-high 13 points and Cam Hines added 10. Jude Ruisch and Ryan Kearney both recorded nine points and Blake Nassry contributed eight. Tyler Beck added seven points.
Against Central Dauphin, it was a different story as Parkland was put into a big hole early on, trailing 16-2 after the first quarter and were never able to recover. Lawrence, Ruisch and Derek Giegbefumwen all led the way with six points. Nassry, Kearney and Beck each recorded four points. Javian Porter completed the scoring for the Trojans with two points.
Parkland made quick work of the Cavaliers as they went up 22-6 after the first quarter and then 37-9 at the intermission. Four Trojans finished in double figures in scoring, led by 12 points from Beck. Ruisch tallied 11 points and both Nassry and Kearney totaled 10. Hines finished with eight points.
Parkland beat Emmaus 62-36 Tuesday to improve to 4-4 in league play and 10-3 overall.
