Parkland boys wrestlers top Allen

The Parkland High School boys wrestling team won its lone dual match last week in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action and competed the Mid-Winter Mayhem tournament at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Last Wednesday, Jan. 8, the Trojans took down Allen 58-18 and then finished 30th overall out of 57 teams at Mid-Winter Mayhem.

In the victory over the Canaries, Parkland won 10 of the 13 bouts, including five by forfeit, three pins and two wins by technical fall. Luis Moya began the match with a forfeit win at 107 pounds, Braden Todora won by technical. fall at 114, Chase Kruk, Jared Santilli and Leo Kern all won by forfeit and Eli Russ recorded a pin at 127.

The Trojans won the first nine bouts to go on top 52-0. Donato Ciampittiello and Dallas Reyes earned back-to-back pins at 145 and 152 pounds, respectively, and Jorge Moya won by technical. fall at 160 pounds. Max Pugach finished off the match with a forfeit victory at 285 pounds.

At the Mayhem event, the Trojans finished in the middle of three conference teams there as Emmaus placed fifth overall with 107.5 points and Pocono Mountain East was 51st with 25.0 points. Parkland finished with 64.5 points.

Moya had the most successful weekend for the Trojans as he placed eighth overall at 160 pounds, winning four of his six matches. Todora also won five matches at 107 pounds.

Parkland has back-to-back dual matches this week as it hosted Emmaus Wednesday and travels to compete against Whitehall on Thursday.
