Max, Sallit lead team at tourney
The Emmaus High School boys wrestling team had a very successful week last week, winning its lone Eastern Pennsylvania Conference dual match and finishing fifth overall out of 57 teams at a tournament in western Pennsylvania.
The Hornets defeated Pleasant Valley on the road this past Wednesday night, 61-12, and then had a top-five placing at the Mid-Winter Mayhem event at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Emmaus won the first 11 bouts of the match with the Bears to go up 61-0.
The Hornets had four pins, three technical falls, two forfeit wins, a major decision and an injury default victory. Jackson Max, Xyler Sallit, Logan Armstrong and Jesse Scott all earned six points for their team with pins. Emilio Albanese, Teagan Caciolo and Xayden Sallit all were victorious via technical falls.
Tommy Fallstich and Chancellor Henry both won because of Pleasant Valley forfeits. Levi Max recorded a 10-2 major decision and Massimo Tranguch rounded out the Hornet wins with an injury default victory at 189 pounds.
At the Mid-Winter Mayhem event, Emmaus ended the two-day tournament with 107.5 team points for fifth place, just 3.5 points behind North Allegheny for fourth.
The Hornets were the top EPC team at the event, placing ahead of Parkland (30th, 64.5 points) and Pocono Mountain East (51st, 25.0 points).
Max and Sallit were the top finishers for Emmaus, ending the weekend fifth overall at 107 and 172 pounds, respectively. Albanese and Scott were both sixth at 114 and 160 pounds, respectively, while Caciolo placed seventh overall at 121 pounds.
Emmaus has a busy next two weeks as it competes in two EPC duals in a span of two days this week, at Parkland on Wednesday and then hosting Liberty Thursday.
The Hornets welcome Nazareth to town next Monday and then Stroudsburg on Wednesday, followed by a nonconference dual match with Pennridge next Saturday.
