Hornets handle Mounties, remain unbeaten in EPC

The Emmaus High School girls basketball team was on a roll over the final couple of weeks of 2024. The Green Hornets won eight of nine games played in December, including a championship at the Easton Rotary Holiday Tournament.

Emmaus continued its winning ways in its only game of the new year as it defeated Stroudsburg 56-24 last Friday night in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action.

In a matchup of the top two teams from their respective divisions, the Mounties (7-4 overall, 4-3 EPC) in the Monroe Division and the Hornets (10-1, 7-0) in the Lehigh Division, Emmaus took a double-digit lead (15-4) after just the first quarter and extended the advantage to 29-10 at halftime.

The Hornets continued to pour it on in the third quarter, outscoring Stroudsburg 22-7 to take a 51-17 lead into the final quarter.

Gabby DeVita finished with a game-high 15 points and tied the team lead with two 3-pointers. Cassie Doemling recorded 12 points and Sylvia Sokolofski added eight points, including two 3-pointers. Sofie Laird tallied seven points and Olive Whitney contributed five. Both Olivia Haberl and Emma Naccarato netted four points and Sophia Shutkufski rounded out the scoring with one point.
