Hornet girls wrestlers beat Pleasant Valley

The Emmaus High School girls wrestling team had a quiet but successful week last week as it won its lone Eastern Pennsylvania Conference dual match.

The Green Hornets got back into conference competition with a road match at Pleasant Valley last Wednesday night, winning 51-24.

Emmaus won nine of the 13 bouts against the Bears, including five via forfeits, three pins and a decision.

Peyton Schneck and Shadeilyz Castro-Ruiz each opened up the match with forfeit victories at 100 and 106, respectively, to go ahead 12-0 early on.

Pleasant Valley responded with back-to-back pins to tie the score and then the

Hornets took control of the match with six consecutive wins. Erin Bechtel and Sarah Luisi both won via forfeits at 124 and 130 pounds, respectively. Brynn Koberlein and Ariana Koberlein recorded back-to-back pins at 136 and 142 pounds.

Haily Laible picked up a 5-3 decision at 148 pounds and then Olivya Kroope earned a pin at 155 pounds to extend her team’s advantage to 45-12. Following two straight Bears wins, Katherine Soto-Acuna ended the match by winning in forfeit fashion at 235 pounds.

Emmaus, which improved to 4-2 overall in duals and 3-2 in the EPC, hosts Parkland on Wednesday night in an EPC dual and then will compete in the Lebanon Tournament at Lebanon High School this Sunday.

The Hornets will then have two straight conference matches on back-to-back nights as they travel to Nazareth Monday and then host Easton on Tuesday night. EPC Championships are set for next Saturday at Liberty High School.
