Hornet girls swimmers beat Stroudsburg, fall to WWL

The Emmaus girls swim team picked up a win in an East Penn Conference dual meet against Stroudsburg recently as it beat the Mountaineers 68-26 before falling to Wilson West Lawn last Friday by 132.5-53.5. The meets leave Emmaus with a 10-5 record overall and a 6-1 mark in EPC dual meets.

Sophomore Mabry Krause won a pair of individual events against Stroudsburg when she took the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.70 seconds and then won by just under :09 with a time of 5:35.50 in the 500-yard freestyle. In the 100-yard freestyle, Emmaus took the top two spots as Bella Marsh edged out teammate Reagan Coffey by .11 seconds. It took a season best time of 1:01.52 for Marsh to get the win over the freshman Coffey.

The Hornets also took the top two spots in two other events. In the 100-yard backstroke it was another close battle as Natalie Cheplick edged Druthi Reddy by 1.96 seconds when Cheplick turned in a season best time of 1:06.78 in the event. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Veronica Karboski finished with a time of 1:25.43 with teammate Liz Mazzetti finishing second by turning in a time of 1:28.29 for Emmaus.

Freshman Sriya Reddy won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:29.38, just under :03 ahead of her nearest competition. Gabrielle Antunes won the 100-yard butterfly by just under :06 as she turned in a time of 1:06.51.

Emmaus swept the three relay races as Karboski, Marsh, Babs Lyons, and Keilani Silva swam the 200-yard medley relay in 2:04.26 for a :07 win over a team from Wilson West Lawn. Emmaus finished first and second in the 200-yard freestyle as Silva, Krause, Harmon, and Sriya Redds finished in 1:44.01, a full :12 ahead of teammates Maddy Roberts, Antunes, Kendall Shriver, and Kate Brion. Finally, Emmaus won the 400-yard freestyle with a time of 3:52.06 to put them 19.43 seconds ahead of their nearest competition. Sriya Reddy, Silva, Cheplick, and Karboski made up the Emmaus team in that event.

In the loss to Wilson, Krause and Karboski picked up individual wins. Krause was just .22 seconds behind Wilson’s Evelyn Quick in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.28, while Karboski posted a time of 56.23 in the 100-yard freestyle, just 1.3 seconds behind the pace of Wilson’s Addison Shiery, who turned in a personal best time of 54.93 seconds.

Wilson swept the relay events with Emmaus finishing second in both the 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle. Krause, Druthi Reddy, Harmon, and Sriya Reddy swam in the 200 medley and Karboski, Druthi Reddy, Mazzetti, and Sriya Reddy competed in the 200-yard freestyle.

Emmaus took second and third in the 400-yard freestyle. Kargoski, Harmon, Cheplick, and Krause were 3:44 seconds behind Wilson with a time of 3:45.54 and Mazzetti, Antunes, Lyons, and Coffey turned in a time of 3:57.67 to finish third.

Wilson took the top two spots in diving with Chloe Fratis winning with a score of 192.50. The Hornets Elle Bagley (180.95) finished third and Maddy Roberts (171.75) came in fourth.

Emmaus swims against Liberty this week at home and then heads to Freedom to face the Patriots next week.
