Falcons rally to beat So. Lehigh
The Salisbury boys basketball team trailed Southern Lehigh at the end of each of the first three quarters last Friday. But the Falcons were ahead at the end of the only period that matters thanks to a big second-half performance. Salisbury held a 45-37 lead at the end of the game to get their fourth straight win.
The Spartans (5-6 overall, 3-5 Colonial) were looking to get a much-needed win as they attempt to get back on track in league play as they opened a 17-11 halftime lead.
Bryan Gonzalez and Drew Petrie hit the first two three-pointers of the game for Salisbury in the third quarter, but Southern Lehigh’s Michael Fry hit two and Joe Plessl hit on another as the Spartans were still up by five after three quarters.
In the fourth quarter, Steven Lozada hit a three-pointer to pull the Falcons a little closer and Gonzalez hit a pair of free throws and drained a jumper as the comeback continued. After Gonzalez dropped his second of the night from beyond the arc, the Spartans keyed on him and sent him to the line for free throws down the stretch and the junior responded by sinking all four of his free shots as Salisbury completed the comeback and sent the Spartans to their third straight loss.
Fry had a game-high 13 points for Southern Lehigh with Gonzalez (12), Petrie (10), and Lozada (9) leading the scoring for Salisbury (8-3, 5-2), which got its fourth straight win.
This week was supposed to start with a game at Catasauqua, but bad weather pushed that game back to Jan. 27. The Falcons host Saucon Valley (5-4, 4-4) Thursday and travel to Northwestern Lehigh (5-1, 8-2) on Friday.
