The Emmaus High School boys basketball team had a long layoff from its last game of 2024 to its first game of 2025. The Green Hornets did not play in a holiday tournament in between Christmas and New Years, leaving 13-day break between action.
The first game back was in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference and Emmaus took care of business with its biggest win differential of the regular season so far, defeating Stroudsburg 63-36 last Friday night at home. The next day, the Hornets lost a nonconference game at Methacton, 76-61.
The Hornets took control of the game early against Stroudsburg and put it out of reach by halftime as they led 20-11 after the first quarter and 45-19 at the intermission.
Mike Rooney tallied a team-best 12 points and Owen Hafner recorded 10 points. Matt Rooney finished with nine points and e Jake Ross, Tyler Nunez and Ethan Dublin contributed six points.
In a quick turnaround, tired legs may have been an issue for the Hornets as they fell behind and could not get over the top as the Warriors jumped out to a big early lead and led by double digits throughout. Emmaus fell behind 22-10 after the opening period and was down 44-29 at halftime.
Jack Csensits led all scorers with 22 points. Mike Rooney totaled nine points, Chase Whitesell had eight points and Lucas Stephan and Hafner added six points each.
Emmaus (3-9 overall; 3-4 EPS) hosted Parkland Tuesday and is at Pocono Mountain East on Saturday.
